Ford County anchors Kansas's cattle-processing industry around Dodge City, drawing a large Latino workforce that has gradually shifted the county's demographic makeup even as Republican presidential margins remain among the widest in the state.
Ford County has leaned Republican in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of twenty-two points in 1936. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved six points toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
Its demographics describe the shift: a 47% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $70,781, and a population of 34,074. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of McPherson County and Harvey County.
