Prince George's County delivers some of Maryland's largest raw Democratic margins, driven by its majority African American population and proximity to Washington, D.C. Its suburbs have grown rapidly, adding younger, college-educated residents to an already heavily blue electorate.
Prince George's County has leaned Democratic in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of eighty-one points in 2016. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved five points toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
Its demographics describe the shift: a 12% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $101,798, and a population of 959,754. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Noxubee County and Petersburg city.
