Demographics
Denton County's rapid population growth — fueled by Dallas–Fort Worth spillover and a large university presence — has steadily compressed Republican margins from R+40 a decade ago to R+13 in 2024, making it a closely watched indicator of suburban realignment in Texas.
Denton County has leaned Republican in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of ninety-seven points in 1916. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved five points toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
Its demographics describe the shift: a 57% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $111,498, and a population of 979,561. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Placer County and Boone County.
