Demographics
Frederick's population has grown roughly 20% since 2010, driven by spillover from the D.C. metro corridor, and that demographic churn has steadily eroded the Republican margins that once made it reliably red in statewide contests.
The Democratic margin here reached seventy-five points in 1912. Between 2020 and 2024 the county moved one point toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was nine points.
A population of 287,048, a 68% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $122,002 describe the county. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Kent County and Gwinnett County.
