Berkeley has added residents faster than almost any other West Virginia county over the past two decades, driven by Washington D.C. commuter sprawl, yet its presidential margins have moved sharply rightward even as its population diversified.
Across the recorded series it reached a Democratic high of 25.1 points in 1912 and a Republican high of 41.6 points in 1972. Between 2020 and 2024 the county moved 4.6 points toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was 35.8 points.
