Hood River's combination of agricultural workers, outdoor-recreation industry employees, and a large Latino population produces a partisan lean that stands apart from virtually every other rural county in the Pacific Northwest.
Hood River County has leaned Democratic in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of thirty-seven points in 2020. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved one point toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
