Blaine County votes Democratic by margins rare in deeply red Idaho, a pattern driven by the affluent, educated transplants and seasonal workers who cluster around the Sun Valley ski resort corridor.
Blaine County has leaned Democratic in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of ninety-one points in 1896. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved five points toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
Its demographics describe the shift: a 78% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $92,566, and a population of 24,951. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Summit County and Gunnison County.
