St. Croix County sits just across the Minnesota border from the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro, and its fast-growing exurban population has shifted the county from a swing district to one of Wisconsin's more reliably Republican margins.
The Republican margin here reached fifty-two points in 1920. Between 2020 and 2024 the county moved three points toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was nineteen points.
A population of 96,033, a 92% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $103,046 describe an agricultural county. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Chisago County and Waller County.
