Demographics
Glades County, anchored by cattle ranching and Lake Okeechobee's western shore, has delivered some of Florida's widest presidential margins, with fewer than 11,000 residents spread across a largely rural, agricultural landscape.
Glades County has leaned Republican in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of fifty-six points in 1932. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved seven points toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
Its demographics describe the shift: a 63% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $45,870, and a population of 12,563. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Jackson County and Noble County.
