Lee County's rapid post-2000 growth, driven largely by retirees from the Midwest and Northeast, has produced one of Florida's most reliably Republican electorates on the Gulf Coast, with the 2024 presidential margin reaching 28.4 points.
Lee County has leaned Republican in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of ninety-six points in 1892. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved nine points toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
Its demographics describe the shift: a 67% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $76,107, and a population of 817,666. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Lake County and Indian River County.
