Demographics
Home to one in four Californians, Los Angeles County's sheer size means its margins routinely define the statewide popular-vote gap. Latino residents now outnumber any other group, reshaping the electorate race by race.
Los Angeles County has leaned Democratic in recent presidential elections, reaching a Democratic margin of forty-nine points in 2016. Between 2020 and 2024 it moved eleven points toward the Republican candidate — part of the sharpest rightward shift recorded among any group of places in the country.
Its demographics describe the shift: a 31% non-Hispanic-white share, a median household income of $90,112, and a population of 9,808,667. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Santa Clara County and Solano County.
