Navajo County spans nearly 10,000 square miles of plateau and canyon country, with the Navajo and Hopi nations covering much of its interior. That reservation geography drives turnout patterns and ballot-access logistics unlike almost any other Arizona county.
Across the recorded series it reached a Democratic high of 47.9 points in 1936 and a Republican high of 33.6 points in 1980. Between 2020 and 2024 the county moved 9.0 points toward the Republican candidate; the 2024 margin was 17.2 points.
A population of 108,415, a 43% non-Hispanic-white share, and a median household income of $54,606 describe the county. The county's voting pattern over the last decade is most similar to that of Apache County and Cherokee County.
